I love that I can use my graphic design skills and love for handcrafting, to create super cute birthdays for my children! Their birthdays are the events I look forward to every year because they are not only important milestones for my little ones but they are also a special event that allows Mommy (moi) to surprise them with a SUPER FUN dessert table full of unique one-of-a-kind stationery and colorful paper details and decor. Handmade with love by Mommy…Well, it can’t get any better than that!
This Vintage Chic 1st Birthday was designed for my daughter Briella and so, this Birthday Collection is called the Briella Collection! How fitting, right! I designed and handcrafted all details of her party from the birthday invitation, tablescape, decor, and paper goods. My sister-in-law and I even baked and iced the smash cake and cupcakes.
The flowers are from a local store and all the fabric details were reconstructed items (created from second hand materials). The reconstructed items include the shredded wall backdrop, the end ties and bows on all the banners, the ties on the mason jars and flower jars, and the handmade “cover” for the cake stand (the stand is actually a reused wooden fruit box). The only piece I kept intact and did not reconstruct was the deep vintage pink, round, ruffled edged table cloth.
Handcrafted items include cake stand “cover”, cake topper, monogram letter, shredded fabric wall backdrop, suspended cotton string decor, embellished paper rosettes (wall decor), water bottle labels, favor tags, drink tags, flag straws, invitation (invite card, envelope liner, and printed envelopes), birthday girl flag stick, cupcake toppers, happy birthday banner, gift table banner, high chair banner, flagged banner for the wooden box used for the favors (bags of biscuit mix), thank you note cards, and birthday girl floral headband. The large paper mache monogram letter “B” was edge painted in ivory and covered with decorative paper.
The color palette (pink, deep vintage pink, vintage turquoise, ivory, and accents in vintage teal) evolved from a stack of scrap papers I had sitting in my studio space, in which I used to create the embellished paper rosettes which were used as wall decor. The diaper cake was a handmade gift from my sister-in-law.
Then I used burlap, twine, and touches of lace and felt, to tie the vintage chic theme together. The burlap was wrapped around the flower jars and also used as a table cloth. Delicate little bows made of twine were glued onto the cupcake wrappers. Little details like this really seem to pull everything together!
